Assistant Technical Director
The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro, Inc. seeks an ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR. This is a full-time, year-round staff position responsible for assisting with all aspects of production and facility needs for the Carolina Theatre and the Crown events, and will report directly to the Technical Director.
ASSISTANT TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the life safety systems, the security of the building, maintenance oversight, and continued restoration of all sound, lighting, mechanical, rigging, and other related technical systems used in support of all events occurring in The Carolina Theatre facilities. The Assistant Technical Director reports to the Technical Director, with input from the Executive Director and the Facilities Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Safety - maintain all life safety systems such as: exit lights and paths, fire extinguishers, perma-lighting (Interior and exterior)
- Event Readiness - ensure equipment and systems are functional and operational as needed.
- Maintenance - repair, replace or request help as needed to "clear the white board" and keep inventory in working order; assist in scheduled maintenance as needed.
- Coordinate janitorial staff. Coordinate landscaping efforts and contractor work on theatre property.
- Assist in training of all staff as needed for use of position appropriate equipment.
- Venue rep - act as on-site technical liaison between theatre and client/artist as needed for events.
- CT Presents - work all CT Presents events as coordinated with the Technical Director
- Improvements - recommend and in some cases, execute long and short-term improvements to the facility.
- Serve as back-up to the Technical Director as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field.
- At least one year of professional technical theatre experience preferred.
- Skilled in the use of computers and related software applications.
- Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills, polished public manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with clients, volunteers, sub-contractors and a diverse group of staff
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in sound and lighting systems, equipment and design, with basic lighting design a priority.
- Must be able to prioritize, be flexible and adaptable.
- Consistent and dependable work ethic.
- Should possess high energy, a sense of humor, and grace under pressure.
The Carolina Theatre of Greensboro operates with a small staff structure and all staff are required to wear multiple hats. Successful candidates must be willing to complete duties as assigned by the Technical Director or Executive Director.
Annual salary $38-45k commensurate with experience. Benefits include Medical Insurance, Paid Holidays, Sick Leave and a 403(b) Retirement Plan

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Carolina Theatre’s Director of Marketing & Public Relations is responsible for all aspects of marketing, public relations, and promotion for Carolina Theatre and Crown events including Carolina Theatre Presents, Carolina Classic and Holiday Movies, rental marketing support, and general branding of corporate image. The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic thinker who can craft and execute innovative marketing campaigns, manage a wide array of digital and traditional marketing channels, and maintain the brand identity of a historic theater with a diverse events calendar. The Marketing Director reports to the Executive Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for theatre media relations and public relations activities including press releases, annual reports, and e-newsletters for the theatre.
- Adheres to the Carolina Theatre Brand Guide and implements/improves the Carolina Theatre’s marketing plan.
- Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on campaign effectiveness, providing analysis and recommendations for improvement.
- Maintains, monitors, and schedules all social media content. Engages with social media audience base by professionally responding to comments and direct messages.
- Oversee the design and distribution of printed collateral for in-theatre and community outreach. Collateral includes, but is not limited to, posters, brochures, and playbills.
- Oversee the website and ensure information is accurate and up-to-date. Ensure the website is user-friendly, optimized for search engines (SEO), and accessible to all visitors.
- Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets, securing press coverage for significant events, rental promotions, and community collaborations.
- Plan and manage digital ad campaigns, maintaining budgets, and targeting parameters to optimize reach and conversions.
- Stays up-to-date with the ever-changing best practices in marketing and suggests new practices for improvement.
- Assists regularly at Carolina Theatre events.
- Supervises Marketing Assistant.
- Facilitates the marketing committee. Serves as liaison with board committees, as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent work experience in a related field.
- Two or more years of professional experience.
- Proficiency with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, Meta Business Suite, email marketing (Mailchimp or Constant Contact), Google Analytics, WordPress, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets.
- Ability to design accurate, engaging, and eye-catching marketing materials.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and organizational skills combined with the ability to work well with board members, donors, volunteers, and a diverse group of staff.
- Polished public presence and manner for interviews, videos, and public speaking engagements.
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, exercise flexibility, and adapt to changing situations.
- Consistent and dependable work ethic.

Our vision is to be the pre-eminent performing arts space for our community’s arts orgnizations. Each year, the Carolina Theatre welcomes over 100,000 people to a wide variety of live performances in our main auditorium and in The Crown, our blackbox theatre. We have a robust cadre of volunteers including our active Board of Directors, greeters, and ticket takers. Our current strategic plan is focused on increasing our community engagement efforts, succession planning, and growing our marketing reach and donor base. Our core values are centered on building community, preserving history, welcoming all members of our community, and offering diverse programming with something for everyone.
Currently, we are seeking a Marketing & Public Relations Professional to work with us under contract while we work to fill this open full-time position. We anticipate the search lasting between three-to-six months.
Our public relations and marketing efforts fall into two areas of priority:
- Carolina Theatre Presents that generates revenue for our organization through ticket sales
- Theatre rentals to organizations that promote their shows but also rely on our assistance to market their shows on our stages
We are in a competitive market that requires on-point marketing materials, communications, and promotion to insure above adequate ticket sales. In order to ensure an adequate sale, we strive to obtain 725 or more patrons per show.
TIMELINE
November 19, 2024 - send RFPs to local Marketing & Public Relations Professional contractors
November 25, 2024 - deadline to submit proposals
December 2, 2024 - notify contractor of acceptance
December 9, 2024 - enter into contract with Marketing & Public Relations Professional for a three-month period
March 3, 2025 - extend contract, on a monthly basis, if position has not been filled
BUDGET
$2000 - $2500 monthly retainer

- Timely and consistent promotion of upcoming shows to secure ticket sales being mindful of our brand guidelines (brand style guide will be provided with collaterals)

VENDOR SELECTION CRITERIA
We are seeking a seasoned marketing and public relations professional to help us communicate with existing and potential audiences about our upcoming performances, ticket sales, and happenings through press releases, social media posts, postering, and paid advertising which may take the form of radio spots, billboards, etc.
We are requesting examples of press releases, posts, posters, and advertisements and analytics on the performance of social media campaigns and paid advertising.
