The Birdcage – Carolina Classic Movie

In this remake of the classic French farce “La Cage aux Folles,” a newly-engaged couple, Val and Barbara, must shakily introduce their future in-laws. Val’s father, Armand (Robin Williams), a gay Miami drag club owner, pretends to be straight and attempts to hide his relationship with Albert (Nathan Lane), his life partner and the club’s flamboyant star attraction, so as to please Barbara’s father: a controversial Republican Senator.

Don’t Sashay Away after the credits roll! Join us after the movie for a Carolina Theatre special event: Out of the Cage: Cocktails & Queens. Included with your movie ticket purchase, enjoy a live drag show on stage hosted by Brenda the Drag Queen, and featuring Malayia Chanel Iman and Dana St James. After the show, Spill the Tea and sip on cocktails in the lobby while mix and mingling with these fabulous Queens!

As seen on TLC’s hit show “My Big Fat Fabulous Life”, Brenda The Drag Queen is the triad’s own live-singing, shade-slinging, comedy monster. Greensboro’s reigning Green Queen, Brenda hosts shows from across the Carolinas to the islands of Mexico, and is known for her standup comedy style and hilarious parodies.

Known as “The Gams of North Carolina”, Malayia Chanel Iman has been entertaining audiences across the Carolinas and beyond for more than two decades. Malayia holds many prestigious titles, including North Carolina Entertainer of the Year, a preliminary competition to National Entertainer of the Year, of which she is now promoter.

Known as “The Showgirl of the South”, Dana St James is one of the original house cast members at Legends Nightclub in Raleigh. She is also the first Miss Legends and has been a professional female impersonator for decades. Dana has traveled across the country, holding titles like Miss NC USofA and Miss World.
