Diahann Carroll shines as Claudine, a single mother of six living in Harlem who works as a maid to make ends meet. When she meets charming garbage collector Rupert (James Earl Jones), the two embark on a tender and complicated romance. As their relationship deepens, they must navigate the challenges of love, family, and a welfare system designed to keep them apart.
