UNCG Jazz Ensemble I February 27, 7:30 pm

In The Crown at The Carolina!

The UNCG Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program continues its yearlong celebration of Duke Ellington’s 120th year with Black, Brown and Beige, a complete performance of the maestro’s large-scale masterwork. Premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1943, Black, Brown and Beige crystallized Ellington’s reputation as an American long-form composer of the highest order, further establishing that Duke was cut from different cloth than his peers. Performed in its entirety for the first time ever in Greensboro, Black, Brown and Beige is a must-hear in the cozy and warm confines of The Crown.
