The Voodoo Orchestra November 1, 8:00 pm

In The Crown!

Bobby Previte, Charlie Hunter and some of the Triad’s best jazz musicians come together to play Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew for a live audience.

Released in 1970, Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew recording is one of the most influential jazz albums of the 20th century. It bridged and pushed both musical and societal boundaries in an unprecedented way. In the words of Mile Davis scholar Paul Tingen, Bitches Brew explored a “new, intangible musical universe,” and to this day, it’s one of the hardest pieces of music to perform.

For decades, renowned percussionist, musician and composer, Bobby Previte, has gathered groups of musicians he dubbed “Voodoo orchestras” and led them through live performances of the seminal album—a life-changing experience for musicians and fans alike.

Together with Bobby and Charlie Hunter, they are building a dream team of the Greensboro region’s finest and most diverse jazz instrumentalists to learn and perform Bitches Brew for a live local audience. Along the way, they’ll share creative stories about these Voodoo Orchestra musicians and the experience, leading up to a live, ticketed Bitches Brew performance for the public.

The Voodoo Orchestra is a creative take on one of the greatest musical masterpieces of the 20th century—and we’ll create a one-of-a-kind experience that truly brings our community together through music.
