Magnolia Green with Farewell Friend and Ashley Virginia + The Heard

In The Crown at the Carolina!

Magnolia Green is the brand-new band from veteran singer/songwriter, Doug Davis (Vagabond Saints’ Society, The Plaids), drummer Les Slate (Mediocre Bad Guys), and highly sought-after pedal steel man, Rick Nathey, along with pianist/songwriter, Jack Gorham, and bassist/songwriter, Adam Bennett. The band brings a lifetime of experience to its soulful, roots-rock/Americana original tunes and boasts an impressive catalog of like-minded covers, from the Rolling Stones and Tom Petty to Jason Isbell and Dawes, from Al Green and Van Morrison, to CCR and the Band.

Farewell Friend started in 2012 with a multi-layered approach to alt-folk. Their music delves into lush orchestral textures, gritty distorted guitar solos, and minimal acoustic landscapes to tell stories about love, loss, and identity. With the release of their sophomore album “Glenwood and Gomorrah,” lead singer and songwriter Tom Troyer established himself as producer and audio engineer, mixing and mastering the entire album in a small bedroom in his former home in the Glenwood neighborhood. This album is both a question and a prayer for the neighborhood he grew up in, cataloging his personal relationships with neighbors during a time of swift gentrification.

Ashley Virginia’s music is bold and unapologetic, yet incredibly vulnerable. She demands your attention because she has important things to say and a voice that makes you want to listen. Ashley believes art should be a tool for political action and self expression. She is joined by her band, The Heard, made of drummer Ricky Perez, bassist Nick VanBuskirk, and guitarist Gabe Dansereau. The four met while in school for music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Each member of this group brings their unique talents and ideas to the table, and the music they make is a product of that wonderful and collaborative effort.
