Greensboro Ballet: The Nutcracker

Greensboro Ballet’s The Nutcracker has been a holiday tradition for Triad families for over 40 years. Give yourself and your family the gift of an enchanting holiday memory that will last for years, made even more magical this year with the addition of live music!

Our first ever Nutcracker Orchestra, consisting of local professional musicians, will play Tchaikovsky’s beloved score as the backdrop for our dancers as they bring the characters of The Nutcracker to life on the stage of the historic Carolina Theatre.

The Nutcracker tells the story of young Clara as she receives her most beloved gift ever, a Nutcracker doll, from her kind Uncle Drosselmeyer, at the annual Christmas party hosted by her family. After everyone has gone to bed, Clara sneaks into her family room to retrieve her Nutcracker from under the Christmas tree, but she soon falls asleep with him wrapped tightly in her arms. She wakes to find herself in a transformed room where all the toy soldiers have grown and come to life and are engaged in a might battle with giant mice. Clara helps her Nutcracker defeat the evil Mouse Queen and is then taken on a magical journey that begins through the ethereal Land of the Snow. Her Nutcracker is turned into a Prince, and he takes her to the delicious Kingdom of the Sweets, where she meets the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy. The Sugar Plum Fairy orders a celebration in their honor and Clara is entertained by toys, treats, and dancing flowers.
