Em & Ty May 31, 7:00 pm
With guest opener Lowborn in The Crown at the Carolina
Local folk singers/songwriters Em & Ty debut their intimate duo act at in The Crown at the Carolina, promising a night full of songs about stories and stories about songs. Joining them will be Greensboro-based emo-pop band Lowborn.
Folk duo Em & Ty (Emma and Tyler Millard) met in 2014 as separate artists and eventually fell in love, all while playing, writing, and performing music together. Their music tells the story of their love so far. “Prologue,” released in February, was written by Tyler to propose to Emma before they decided to produce the song and dance to it at their wedding. The duo has also had to overcome adversity through love after Tyler lost almost all of his vision to a degenerative retinal disease. His blindness had taught Em & Ty more than they ever thought they would learn about the importance of love, life, family, and most of all, music’s power to create hope.

Lowborn is Wes Lauterbach as lead singer/guitarist, Zane Frye on guitar/synth, William Clayton as lead guitarist/backup vocals, and Cody Bishoff playing drums /pads. All four grew up in North Carolina and now call Greensboro home. In a relatively short time, Lowborn has made waves by performing polished live shows and engaging performances, built on a foundation in alt rock, a lean toward synth-pop, and lyrics that rival emo bands of days gone by. It’s nearly impossible to stop yourself from humming their songs the day after you hear them and it keeps you wanting more. Lowborn is on the move and has been hailed by media outlets as a band to watch.
