Rapidly rising on the bluegrass scene, Liam Purcell and his band Cane Mill Road are Billboard-charting artists who perform internationally and stateside, winning both industry awards and the hearts of fans who turn out to see them at some of the most iconic venues: MerleFest, FloydFest, Grey Fox, Wide Open Bluegrass, The Station Inn, Silver Dollar City, just to name a few of the hundreds of venues played over the past six years.
Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road have appeared on national TV on PBS three times, including this season on David Holt’s State of Music show. The band’s first three albums resulted in 10 weeks on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums Chart including a #2 spot right behind Billy Strings. The band recorded with Jim Lauderdale and will be featured on his next album.
Not only did they win the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2019 Momentum Award for band-of-the-year, but the band and its players racked up 2 awards and 5 nominations from IBMA over the past two years, and an IBMA Ramble Band slot in 2017, as well as a Grey Fox Emerging Artist artist selection in 2018. The band returned to Grey Fox in 2019 to play the main stage twice, including a set with Billy Strings sitting in, and Liam played with Billy on his dance stage set in 2017.
Growing up just down the road from Doc Watson, Liam Purcell leads Cane Mill Road as they rock the traditional bluegrass standards they were raised on, yet boldly write original music. Only 17, the mandolinist/fiddler has performed internationally, co-written a songbook with bluegrass legend Pete Wernick, co-produced an album with 2-time GRAMMY winner Cathy Fink, and was one of the youngest musicians selected for The Savannah Music Festival’s Acoustic Music Seminar.
