Get on Up - 2021 Summer Film Festival August 3, 7:00 pm

The Carolina Theatre Summer Film Festival is back for its 13th year!

Born in extreme poverty in 1933 South Carolina, James Brown survived abandonment, abuse, and jail to become one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He joined a gospel group as a teenager, but the jazz and blues along the "chitlin' circuit" became his springboard to fame. Throughout his career, Brown retained the ability to mesmerize audiences with his music, signature moves, and sexual energy. Chadwick Boseman electrifies as the legendary “Godfather of Soul” in this exhilarating biopic.

Directed by Tate Taylor. Starring Chadwick Boseman, Nelsan Ellis, Viola Davis, and Dan Aykroyd. 2014, Rated PG-13, 2h 19min.
