Wednesday is a five-piece band out of Asheville, North Carolina led by guitarist/vocalist Karly Hartzman. Their second album, Twin Plagues, came out in 2021 via Orindal Records. Weaving between twang and shoegaze and the scuzz of ’90s college rock with ease, Hartzman’s voice cuts through the din. The record garnered praise from publications including Pitchfork, Stereogum, DIY, and more.

Stereogum dubbed Twin Plagues one of the best releases of 2021, calling it a “scorcher” and describing the songs as “dangerously volatile, like the distortion might actually leap out and burn you if you come too close.”

The band has gone out to sell-out headline shows in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and more.

Raleigh’s Truth Club have made a place for themselves in the extremes. Pivoting between vocal minimalism and a more traditional, energetic full-band sound, the group's distinctiveness is in their exploration. Travis Harrington's voice parallels the motion of the instruments, sometimes pronounced and soaring, other times hovering in a dark murmur. The image-based confessionalism hangs over the guitars, at times creating a dissonant intensity, but becomes sweetened in moments of accompaniment by Yvonne Chazal. Although Truth Club’s form never deviates far from indie-rock conventions, the group avoids formulaic instrumentation. Drummer Elise Jaffe crafts nimble rhythms with bassist Kameron Vann, their harmony a deft foundation for the wavering synths and frenetic guitars that spiral and collide with one another.
